I had the privilege of being the guest speaker at the Colorado Rural Electric Association (CREA) 2017 Loss Control Seminar in Denver on July 25th. The presentation looked at the changing co-op environment and the security challenges facing electric cooperatives today. The four-hour seminar provided an overview of “ASSIST”, InDev's proprietary security training series that focuses on workplace violence prevention, situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, and active shooter response. This was a great session with active participation and involvement from the audience. The frequent attendees questions were both challenging and insightful.
Kent Singer, Executive Director of CREA, attended the session. His presence underscored the importance of co-op security to CREA and his commitment to safety of the association members. CREA has an impressive team of safety professionals serving the Colorado ECs including:
Dale Kishbaugh - Director of Safety & Loss Control
Anglea Meyer - Risk Management Coordinator
Curt Graham - Job Training & Safety Instructor
Dan Whitesides - Job Training & Safety Instructor
In the days following the seminar, I had the opportunity to work with many of the Colorado ECs to enhance security by providing onsite training and security consulting & advisory services.
It was an honor to make this presentation and to work with the CREA safety team and other co-op safety professionals across Colorado.
